218 Co-op Gallery Hosts 'Coffee Mates'

The artists and owners at 218 Co-op Gallery have decided to open their doors a bit early each second Saturday for a community coffee time.

September’s Coffee Mate gathering was a great opportunity for folks to be in the gallery, grab a cup of delicious Redbud Roasters coffee and chat about art, community and everything in between.

Creating time for art and community seems to be ever more challenging, but it’s the hope of the Co-op owners that Coffee Mates can become a standing monthly opportunity for San Marcans to chat with friends new and old, experience the art in the gallery and grab a cup of coffee before they head over to the Farmer’s Market and Art Squared Arts Market.

One of the core goals the cooperative established early on is creating community around the arts in San Marcos. As the group gets closer to finalizing their legal cooperative status, more of these conversations are bubbling to the surface.

“Community building through the arts not only strengthens bonds between people, it offers opportunities to discuss creative solutions to a host of challenges," 218 artist Christine Terrell said. "It’s only through these discussions that we able to see how closely aligned we are as a community.”

218 Co-op Gallery invites everyone with a love for art and coffee to join them each second Saturday between 10 a.m. and noon. Details for the event can be found on their Facebook page.

The gallery is located just off the square at 218 N. Guadalupe Street. Regular hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 3 to 7 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The gallery can also be made available for private shopping engagements by emailing contact@218coopgallery.com.
